JaundiceJaundice is common in new born babies. It is the key sign of many disorders of the liver and gall bladder. It can develop suddenly or gradually. CausesJaundice may occur when the flow of bile from the liver, through the biliary system to the intestine, is blocked. The bile stagnates in the liver, which in turn means that the yellow pigment bilirubin, flows back in to circulation.
Signs & SymptomsThe very first sign of jaundice are yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, darkened urine and some times pale stools. The skin may become itchy before occurrence.
